Toronto: Holy Fuck, Broken Social Scene Play Free All Ages Shows at Harbourfront Centre Next Weekend

I know that many of you are headed to Windsor this Saturday for the Radio 3 Phog Phest but for those of you staying in Toronto, Harbourfront totally has your back.

On Friday Night the show starts at 8:00 PM with Montreal's Winter Gloves, followed by Phog Phest headliners, "the Larry Bird's moustache of indie rock" Holy Fuck at 9:30. If you decide to linger after that you'll see DD/MM/YYYY at 11 and Styrofoam Ones to close out the night.

Holy Fuck - Lovely Allen

Then on Saturday at 8 PM (from what I can tell with no opening act and no one to follow) - Toronto mega-collective Broken Social Scene are on.

All of this is all ages and free:

Over The Top Fest '09!

Over The Top Fest is a mere week away!!!

Torontonians of all ages are in a tizzy; the 8th annual Over The Top Festival hits our fair city next Thursday May 21rst! Don’t worry if you’re unfamiliar with some of the names on the list – Eric Warner, the festival’s 25 year old promoter (that’s right, he started this thing when he was a mere 17) has been bringing in “no names” for years, which include the likes of Of Montreal, Matt and Kim and Daniel Johnston. If there’s one festival in this city that delivers on ‘Just trust me – You’ll be saying you saw them when…” It’s Over The Top. And with every single show at recession-friendly price, and ENITRELY ALL AGES… OTTF is fun the whole family can enjoy. In recent years, OTTF has broadened to include a wide variety of film and theater as well, and this year is no exception. But hit the official website to find out more about the film and theater schedule, because I want to talk about the music.

Musical highlights this year include Montreal Art-rockers Think About Life and ex-Unicorn/Arcade Fire project Clues, Toronto gothic-blues man of the hour and recent Arts & Crafts sign-ee Timber Timbre with Halifax twin sisters in spooky freak-folk Ghost Bees, Guelph funky electro-poppers Green Go and New York teen pop sensations Tiny Masters of Today. Erykah Badu meets Final Fantasy in loopy ukelelesist Tune-Yards, and things take a quiet countrified turn with Peterborough’s Evening Hymns and Toronto’s alt-country masters The Wooden Sky. Actually, the whole damn festival is pretty out of sight, and incredibly varied. Do yourselves a favor and spend a few minutes flipping through the various myspaces and extended bios on the OTTF website, and I have no doubt you’ll stumble upon many an unexpected gem.

Music Schedule is as follows:

Thursday May 21
Clues w. The Ghost Is Dancing + The Darcys @ Sneaky Dees
Baby Dee w. Timber Timbre + Ghost Bees @ 6 Nassau
Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains + Dinosaur Bones + Friendly Foes + Bayonets @ Whippersnapper Gallery

Friday May 22
Think About Life w. Tuneyard + Bayonets @ Polish Combatants Hall
The Wooden Sky w. Evening Hymns + The Silver Line @ The Music Gallery
MV+EE w. Woods + Guests @ Whippersnapper Gallery
Mecca Normal w. Dave Borins + Wilderness of Manitoba @ 6 Nassau Street
Ulysses & The Siren w. The Narrative + Cool Dad @ Sneaky Dees

Saturday May 23

The Budos Band w. Word People + DJ John Kong @ Polish Combatants Hall
Tiny Masters of Today w. Windom Earle + The Superstitions @ Whippersnapper Gallery
Shellshag + Fiasco + Green Go + Bayonets + The Guest Bedroom @ Sneaky Dees
Five Blank Pages (Last Show Ever!) w. Oh No Forest Fires + Boys Who Say No @ Mod Club

Sebastian Grainger + Dinosaur Bones May 21 in Toronto

Thursday, May 21 at the Whippersnapper Gallery in Toronto (587A College Street) Dinosaur Bones and Sebastian Granger and the Mountains are playing a free all ages show. The show doesn't start until 11 pm though so 'All Ages' doesn't necessarily mean 'All Ages.' It's an 'All Ages that can stay out until 2 in the morning' show. But it is free.

On Edit: I had originally posted that this show was free - it's not, it's $10 bucks, I don't know where I got the free from, but $10 isn't too bad.

Facebook Event Page is Here.

Speaking of Sebastian Granger though - check out the 20th Edition of Colin Medley's Soundcheck:

Daps Duo II: All Ages at Rolly's Garage Next Saturday

The second (all ages) Daps Duo show is next Saturday (April 4, 09) at Rolly's Garage. All ages means you can bring the kiddies. There is no booze but if it's the same as the last one you can buy pizza by the slice, hot cocoa, candy and of course merch.

The lineup looks like this (I'm not sure about the order): Bonjay, Kat Burns (of Forest City Lovers playing solo), Boxes & Bags, Pixilators, DJ Jamal and a Super Secret Mystery Guest who will be announced at the show.

The whole thing kicks off at 12:30 and will be over at 4:30 - so you can still go out later if you wanna.

Rolly's Garage is an actual garage, not a bar with a clever ironic name, it's at 124 Ossington in T.O. and the Facebook Event Page is Here.
